German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Saturday hosted talks in Berlin on how to speed up nuclear disarmament with officials from nine other countries that oppose nuclear weapons, reported dpa.

The talks, aimed at banning the production of weapons-grade fissile material, were attended by the foreign ministers of Japan, Australia, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, as well as high-level representatives from Chile, Canada, Poland and Turkey.

Last year, these countries formed the group Friends of the Non- Proliferation Treaty.
