The Georgian Dream coalition supports the peace process, which is conducted by the co-chairs of the Geneva talks, leader Bidzina Ivanishvili said on Monday.

He noted that as soon as the new government is formed, it will actively cooperate with all parties to the Geneva format, and as soon as the new government is formed, it will actively cooperate with all parties to the Geneva format during the transition period.

"As soon as the new government is formed, we will actively participate in these meetings and will work constructively with all parties to the Geneva format for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia taking into account the government interest. We are ready for constructive cooperation with the Georgian delegation at the Geneva negotiations during the transition period so that the transfer of authority to the new representatives appointed by the government met democratic standards, including mandatory prior consultation. However, we want to note the positive role of the EU observer mission in preserving security and stability and to declare full readiness to work closely with it," Ivanishvili said.

The next meeting of the Geneva format scheduled for October 11-12.

The Geneva talks were convened after the armed conflict in Georgia in August 2008, in accordance with the Ceasefire Agreement dated Aug.12.

Military actions were launched in the Georgian region of South Ossetia on Aug.8, 2008. Later Russian troops occupied the city of Tskhinvali and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognised the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August.

In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced the two unrecognised republics as occupied territories.
