The chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Georgian parliament, Irakli Sesiashvili confirmed that the Joint Staff of Georgian Armed Forces will be called the General Staff.

The chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Georgian parliament, Irakli Sesiashvili confirmed that the Joint Staff of Georgian Armed Forces will be called the General Staff.

He also confirmed that Vakhtang Kapanadze's candidacy for the post of staff's head is being considered.

"I believe that Kapanadze is one of the most outstanding and worthy Georgian officers. He enjoys a quite high authority in the army, he has a great experience and knowledge, and I think that in case of Kapanadze's appointment he will be a great asset for our armed forces," Sesiashvili said.

According to him, the Joint Staff of Armed Forces will be called General Staff following commencement of the new Constitution.

"We just need to make amendments to Law on Georgian Armed Forces, which will reviewed next week along with the package of laws on the Council of National Security," Sesiashvili said.
