Authorities are searching for a suspect they believe shot and killed a 29-year-old mother at her home and then abandoned her 4-year-old son at a highway rest stop, foxnews reported.
A Maryland couple found the boy Friday wandering around a rest area along Interstate 70 in central Ohio.
Mike and Judith McConnell told NBC's Today Show on Sunday that the boy told them a stranger had entered his house without knocking and shot his mother.
The couple brought the child into their vehicle to keep him warm and contacted authorities. Police later found Jennifer Nelson, the boy's mother, shot to death in her Dayton home.
Two computers were also stolen from the home. The boy described the intruder as a white male.
