Greek Premier George Papandreou arrived in Turkey's eastern province of Erzurum on Thursday, Anadolu Agecy reported.

Papandreou will attend the Third Ambassadors Conference as the guest of Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Greek Foreign Minister Dimitrios Droutsas also arrived in Erzurum together with Papandreou.

Papandreou will meet with Erdogan over a breakfast on Friday within the scope of his one-day visit. The two premiers will also inaugurate the facilities which were constructed for the 25th World University Winter Games (Universiade) that will take place in Erzurum.

Erdogan and Papandreou will address ambassadors at the lunch and then hold a joint press conference. Papandreou is envisaged to depart for Greece on Friday evening.

Universiade, as the olympic meeting of university students, is one of the most important sport events in the world. It is the main point in FISU's (International University Sports Federation) calendar.

The Games, which are staged every two years in a different city, are held in two parts as Summer and Winter Games. The summer games first took place in Turin in 1959, and winter games in 1960, in the city of Chamonix (France). The leader in hosting the games is Italy (5 times).
