Terrorism threat is growing throughout the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Dec.3, RIA Novosti reported.
He made the remarks during the annual Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly.
It is difficult to fight terrorists when they receive permanent financial support, said Russian president.
He noted that one country is not able to defeat the international terrorism amid the new resettlement of peoples and open borders throughout the world.
Putin pointed out that the militants in Syria pose a particular danger for Russia.
They receive money, weapons and if they get stronger and win there [in Syria], they will inevitably penetrate Russia's territory to blow up, kill and torture people, he said.
"We should trace and eliminate them on the distant approaches. Here's why it was decided to hold a military operation based on the official request from the lawful, legitimate Syrian government," Putin added.
