MADELEINE ALBRIGHT ARRIVES IN AZERBAIJAN

The former US State Secretary, head of the Board of Directors of the USA National Democratic Institute, Madeleine Albright arrives today in Baku on a two-day working visit.

During her visit Mrs. Albright will be accompanied by the chief expert on election programs, Patrick Merlo, Trend reports. During her stay she plans to meet with the representatives of political parties, NGOs and media.

During the meetings, the 6 November parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan will be mainly discussed. Albright will also take part in the roundtable on the media issues, to take place on 12 July in Baku.

Participants of the meeting will discuss the current state of affairs on the freedom of speech and journalists in Azerbaijan, on the media role on the eve of the parliamentary elections.

On the result of her tour Albright will make a statement on the progress of democratic processes in Azerbaijan as an expert.

The former US State Secretary Albright has been appointed in 1978 a member of the National Security Council under the Carter president, in charge of the public relations.

In 1993 Albright was the US permanent representative in the UNO and in 1996-2000 she was State Secretary under the President Clinton.
