By Demir Azizov- Trend:

Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company constructed a 500 kV high voltage transmission line Syrdarya TPP - Novo- Angren TPP worth $ 87 million, a representative of the company told Trend Jan. 15.

The 130 kilometer transmission line was approved by the state acceptance committee and put under load, the statement says.

The transmission line will ensure uninterrupted electricity flows between the eastern and central parts of the country.

The project was financed through a loan from the Chinese Export- Import Bank to the amount of $33 million and Uzbekenergo's own funds.

Chinese Xian Electric Engineering supplied the technical equipment and materials.

Syrdarya TPP is the largest thermal power plant in Central Asia. Its capacity is 3,000 megawatts (10 energy blocks with a capacity of 300 megawatts). The annual volume of electricity supply to the country's united energy system is 13 billion kilowatt hours or 32 percent of the total volume of electricity generated in Uzbekistan.

Currently, Uzbekistan is implementing a $60.2 million worth project for modernization of the Syrdarya thermal power plant. It is planned to reconstruct two power units (the third and fourth) with the capacity of 300 megawatt each. The total capacity of these power units will increase by 50 megawatt and reach 650 megawatt, as a result of the reconstruction.

Uzbekenergo also completed the first stage of the project for modernization of Novo-Angren thermal power plant in the Tashkent province in late 2014, in parallel with the modernization of the Angren open-pit coal mine. The total cost of the project was $272.8 million.

The 1-5 power units of Novo-Angren thermal power plant were switched to the year-round burning of coal within the project. The electricity generation at the plant increased by three times and hit 7.02 billion kilowatt hours as a result of these activities.

Currently, the installed capacity of Uzbekistan's power plants is 12.8 million kilowatt hours. Up to 90 percent of the total volume of electricity in the country is produced by 10 thermal power plants of Uzbekenergo.

The length of the power transmission line is over 235,000 kilometers, including a power transmission line of 220-500 KV with the length of 7,500 kilometers.

Uzbekistan increased electricity production by 3.2 percent in 2013 compared to 2012 and brought it to 54.207 million kilowatt hours.
