The terrorist groups do not pose any threat to the Iran-Iraq border due to the cooperation and coordinated work of the border guards of the two countries, the head of Iran's Border Service Qasem Rezaei said at a press-conference, Iran's IRNA news agency reported Jan. 19.

The press-conference was held in connection with the visit of a delegation of Iraq's Interior Ministry to the city of Zahedan, Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

"The border security is at a good level," he said.

Rezaei said that the danger exists only in the northern part of the border with Iraq.

"This is associated with the groups involved in smuggling and PEJAK activity, which is an Iranian wing of the PKK.

"According to the agreement reached with the Iraqi counterparts, they will monitor this zone," Rezaei said.

He also stressed that the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Iraq is gradually weakening.

"It is on the brink of liquidation," he said. "It does not pose a threat."

"The territories occupied by IS are liberated in Iraq with the support of the army and people," he added.

Rezaei said that the Iraqi delegation reviewed the work conducted in the area of border security in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

"Iran will share the border security experience with Iraq.

A delegation led by Interior Minister of Iraq Mohammed Salem al-Ghabban arrived in Tehran on January 17. The discussions were held during the visit. The agreements were reached to strengthen the security cooperation, to exchange the experience between the two countries and to organize the training for Iraq's police officers, as well as in the field of regional cooperation development.
