Greek government intends to continue the implementation of the project for construction of Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), Greek media reported citing the country's Minister of Reconstruction of Production, Environment and Energy Panos Skourletis.
He made the remarks during the handover ceremony held at Greek Ministry of Reconstruction of Production, Environment and Energy.
TAP is a part of the huge Southern Gas Corridor project, which envisages transportation of gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.
The 870 kilometers long pipeline will be connected to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) on the Turkish-Greek border near the city of Kipoi, run through Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Italy's south.
It is planned to start the pipeline's construction in 2016.
The initial capacity of TAP will be 10 billion cubic meters per year, expandable to 20 billion cubic meters. As part of Stage 2 of developing Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field, the first volumes of gas will be transported to Europe via TAP in early 2020.
The shareholders are: BP (20 percent), SOCAR (20 percent), Statoil (20 percent), Fluxys (19 percent), Enagas (16 percent) and Axpo (five percent).
