An issue on the construction of the 'East-West' gas pipeline with a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year which will connect the eastern part of Turkmenistan with the Caspian region, was raised during a recent government meeting in the capital of Turkmenistan, Turkmen television reported.
According to the report, Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused the attention on the need to accelerate the construction of the pipeline which should improve the reliability of the supply of new industrial facilities put into operation in various industrial fields.
The implementation of the project is of great importance from the point of view of increasing exports of Turkmen energy resources to the world markets, the Turkmen leader said.
Seven gas compressor stations and other infrastructure facilities will be built along the entire route of the gas pipeline and the project documentation of these facilities is being carrying out. All works are planned to be completed in 2015.
The construction and installation works on the gas pipeline route running to around 770 kilometres is being carried out by units of the government concerns Turkmengaz and Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk (Turkmenneftegazstroy).
Implementation of the project worth more than two billion dollars was initiated in Turkmenistan in 2010. The pipeline which is being built from the gas crimping installation at the Shatlyk station in Mary velayat (province), will ultimately connect the oil deposits in the east of the country to the western side.
The pipeline will run through the Mary, Akhal and Balkan provinces with a final destinationat the Belek facility in the Balkan velayat. Construction of the country's new chain of factories, power plants and other enterprises is envisaged throughout Turkmenistan.
A significant amount of gas is required for the dynamic development of the electrical energy sector of the country, including the electrification of the extended distance from Shatlyk to Belek.
The 'East-West' gas pipeline will contribute to the holistic formation of the gas supply to a steel plant in Ruhabat, a textile complex and enterprises producing construction materials and industrial sectors in Abadan.
