By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif urged all countries to help boost the anti-terrorism front.

He made the remarks in a meeting with former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik on the sidelines of the international World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) conference, which is being held in Tehran, Iran 's IRNA news agency reported on Dec. 10.

Zarif said regional countries should play a greater role to materialize the goal.

Bondevik, for his part, appreciated Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's initiative to launch an anti-terrorism campaign in the region.

At the opening session of the WAVE conference Rouhani said that a world without violence would be possible only through cooperation between governments.

Rouhani further called for boosting regional and international cooperation to fight the Takfiri terrorist groups fighting in Syria and Iraq.

"Violence in some parts of the world such as the Middle East claims the lives of tens of women and children each day," the Iranian president noted.

He also urged the countries that support the militant groups to renounce violence and terror.

Representative from 40 countries have taken part in the event. The two-day conference will close on December 10.

The conference comes against the backdrop of the growing threat of violence and extremism across the Middle East, particularly the atrocities committed by ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Syria and Iraq .
