Iranian Parliament started an open session to impeach Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji-Dana.

Faraji-Dana will respond to the lawmakers' questions at the session, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on August 20.

Firs Vice-President Is'haq Jahangiri, Economic Affairs and Finance Minister Ali Tayebnia, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Health Minister Seyyed Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi, Sports and Youth Minister Mahmoud Goudarzi, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdaz Zanganeh, Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Ali Jannati, and Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari have also attended the session.

The impeachment proceedings against Faraji-Dana were notified at an open session of parliament on Aug. 12 with 51 signatories.

According to MP Ali Asghar Zare'yi, the number of signatories has reached 62.

The critics of Faraji-Dana mainly accuse him of politicizing the academic environment and criticize the minister for appointing some political figures as his advisors and deputies.

On October 27, 2013, parliament granted a vote of confidence to Faraji-Dana after the lawmakers refused to approve the qualifications of Rouhani's initial nominee for the position.
