Kuwaiti Emir Sabah al-Ahmed dissolved parliament Sunday, the state news agency reported, clearing the way for an early election in the oil-producing Gulf emirate, dpa reported.
The constitution says the vote must be held within two months. Al-Ahmed set no date for the new poll in his decree dissolving the legislature.
The Supreme Court invalidated in June the opposition-led parliament elected in February. The next parliament will be Kuwait's sixth since 2006.
Opposition demonstrators have been protesting to demand a constitutional monarchy.
Although Kuwait holds broadly free elections, the government is appointed by the emir, who retains effective power.
