Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had a meeting with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun in Ankara on Wednesday, AA reported.
After the meeting, Davutoglu told reporters: "We have reached a historical turning point in Cyprus." Negotiations have been under way and TRNC has been exerting great efforts for a lasting and comprehensive peace, he said.
Turkey extended every kind of assistance in regard to the negotiations and would continue to do so, he said.
In regard to the Greek Cypriot administration's drilling oil and natural gas, Davutoglu said, "it is against the international law before ongoing negotiations carried out by TRNC and the Greek Cypriot administration are concluded by the UN."
Davutoglu said that negotiations conducted under the auspices of the UN should be completed first and a united Cyprus state should be reestablished on the basis of the two founder states.
Resources belonged to all people living in Cyprus, he said.
"We hope that the Greek Cypriot administration will assume a constructive attitude at the negotiation table and focus on talks," he said.
Ozgurgun said that they had a comprehensive meeting with Davutoglu.
There has been a great cooperation between Turkey and TRNC, he said. TRNC was glad that Turkey extended a great support to TRNC during this challenging period, he said.
Ozgurgun said he hoped that the Greek Cypriot administration would act with common sense and make good use of proposals by TRNC.
