Israeli forces have shot and wounded a Palestinian in a confrontation that took place along the northern Gaza security fence, the army said on Sunday.
A military spokeswoman said that troops had identified several suspects approaching the border fence in an area closed off to civilians near the town of Beit Lahiya, and initially attempted to distance them by using riot dispersal means and warning shots in the air.
The soldiers fired towards the legs of the "main instigators" of the group after they failed to heed the warnings, and confirmed hitting one of them, the spokeswoman said.
The wounded man's condition was not clear. A military source said he was seen independently evacuating himself from the scene of the confrontation along with other men.
