Silvio Berlusconi appeared in a Milan court on Thursday to follow the deposition of his former British tax lawyer, David Mills, who was being questioned at the ex-Italian premier's corruption trial, DPA reported.

Berlusconi is accused of paying Mills 600,000 dollars to provide false evidence about his business activities in a corruption trial dating back to the 1990s.

Mills was giving evidence to Thursday's hearing via a video conference call from London.

The lawyer was convicted in absentia in February 2009, but later acquitted by the Italian Supreme Court under the country's statute of limitations.

Berlusconi had also appeared in court on Monday to hear the first part of Mills' testimony.

The media magnate's court appearances were relatively rare when he was prime minister, citing political engagements at the times as preventing him from attending hearings.

The trial is one of several scandals that have mired Berlusconi's political career. In a separate trial, he is accused of paying an underage prostitute for sex and of abusing his position to cover up the liaison.

Berlusconi resigned as prime minister on November 12.
