The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is considering the possibility of implementing a project for improving inspection in Azerbaijan's agriculture sector, says a source in the Corporation.

The project is to cover phytosanitary, veterinary and other kinds of inspections, the source told Trend Feb. 18.

"Currently, discussions are underway in the IFC," said the source. "The project's implementation format hasn't been defined yet."

He added that the issues related to bringing in experts and donor funds haven't been solved either.

The project's implementation can begin this year, especially given the interest of Azerbaijan's Agriculture Ministry, added the source.

The project will help increase transparency in inspection and strengthen the supervision over entrepreneurs' complying with their commitments, according to the source.

Azerbaijan has cooperated with the IFC since 1995. The IFC's Azerbaijan portfolio exceeds $400 million, allocated for implementation of more than 70 projects.
