Rector of Istanbul Technical University visits Baku Higher Oil School (PHOTO)

A delegation from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) headed by the ITU Rector Prof. Mehmet Karaca visited Baku at the invitation of Rector of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) Elmar Gasimov.

During the visit, business meetings were held with the BHOS leadership and teaching staff. Also, as part of the visit, the ITU delegation met with the SOCAR Vice-president for HR, IT and Regulations Khalik Mammadov and discussed prospects for cooperation with him.

During a visit to the main academic building of BHOS, the guests got acquainted with the conditions created there and received detailed information about the research laboratories, library, sports halls, fitness rooms, and student dormitories operating in the Higher School.

Then, during a meeting with Rector Elmar Gasimov, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between BHOS and ITU in various directions. At the same time, issues related to studying ITU’s experience in creating a Computer Engineering Department and teaching the "Computer Engineer" specialty and applying this experience in Baku Higher Oil School, implementing joint academic programs, exchanging teachers and students, realizing double diploma programs, and implementing joint innovative projects were discussed.

Elmar Gasimov noted that the many years of effective activity of Istanbul Technical University in the field of engineering will be a successful experience for the Higher School. In this context, he emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral cooperation in a wider range.

The rector noted that, despite the fact that Baku Higher Oil School is a relatively young university, it maintains a leading position in the training of highly qualified engineering personnel.

“The most intelligent young people in the country are studying at Baku Higher Oil School,” he added.

The ITU Rector Prof. Mehmet Karaca, in turn, gave the meeting participants detailed information about Istanbul Technical University. He informed them about the renowned graduates of ITU, which has a 150-year history, the external relations of the university, ITU’s position in the international ranking table.

Expressing his interest in expanding relations with the Higher School, the professor stressed that he considers the meeting as a new stage in future cooperation.

Then BHOS and ITU signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

At the same time, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Office of Erasmus + & International Programs of Baku Higher Oil School and Istanbul Technical University as part of Mevlana Exchange Programme.

Note that the purpose of Mevlana Exchange Programme is to conduct exchange of students and teachers between higher education institutions of the Republic of Turkey and universities of other countries.

At the end of the meeting, Elmar Gasimov handed the “Honored Guest” placket to the ITU Rector Mehmet Karaca.
