Eight People Suspected in Cooperation with Foreign Special Service Bodies- Detained in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 January / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / in 2007, the State Frontier Service detained eight people, suspected in the secret cooperation with the foreign special service bodies, Elchin Guliyev, the chief of the State Frontier Service (SFS) of Azerbaijan, stated on 10 Janaury.

According to Guliyev, SFS officials detained 710 wanted criminals in 2007. Some 413 out of 3,332 people detained by the Service were trespassers. The number of trespassers from Iran, Iraq and Chine has increased. Some 13.3% of the trespassers were detained while attempting to cross the Azerbaijan, 30% were attempting to leave Azerbaijan and 42.1% were detained frontier-control centres.

Most trespassers were detained from the Azerbaijani-Iran border, 29.8% from Azerbaijani-Georgian border, 7.7% from Azerbaijani-Russian border, 2.9% from the sea border and 26.2% from the airport.

The number of trespassers decreased by 13.1% as compared to the last year. Guliyev said that the most trespassers were detained from the Shamkir frontier post.
