Turkmenistan is among the first countries which helped the Haiti's people, who suffered as a result of earthquake, transferring $500,000 the UN for Haiti after an emergency meeting of the General Assembly and Security Council.

An earthquake with magnitude 7.0 occurred in Haiti on Jan. 12. Its center was located in 15 kilometers south-west of the capital Port-au-Prince at a depth of 10 kilometers below the seabed. Subsequently, Haiti shocked the two tremors aftershocks measuring 5.9 and 5.5. The number of victims ranges from 170, 000 to 270,000 people.

Then Ashgabat lost 80 percent of its residents and the death toll reached nearly to 176,000 people.
