Georgia Eager to Repay Turkish Share of Shah Deniz Gas through Electricity

The Georgian Energy Minister, Nika Gulauri, informed a Trend Correspondent in Georgia that within10 days Georgia will conclude talks with Turkey on the distribution of the Turkish share of Shah Deniz gas in 2007. Currently we are negotiating with Ankara on tangible forms of repayment of debts for Turkish gas to be supplied this year, to be repaid during the period between 2008 and 2009.

He stressed that during initial talks the sides achieved an agreement on allocation of 0.8bln cu m of natural gas as part of the Turkish share in the Shah Deniz field of Azerbaijan.

The Georgia minister noted that in talks with Turkey, they mulled over different forms of repayment of the debt вЂ" through gas, money or electricity.

Georgia, of course, is eager to cover the debt through the delivery of electricity and it is the current topic of discussions, he noted

This year Georgia will receive 250mln cu m of the Shah Deniz gas for gas transit via the South-Caucasus pipeline at the price of $62 per 1000 cu m. Georgia will have to pay $120 per 1000 cu m of gas from Turkey.
