Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / The decision to take an action against the death of Faina Kungurova, the former member of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA), was postponed, the Nizami District Prosecutor Office of Baku reported to the Trend agency on 27 December.
The former DPA member died in the medical centre of the Penal Service at the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry, on 18 November. Kungurova refused to eat in the isolation cell and medical centre. She agreed to take medical care only after her state worsened. As a result she died. According to the Prosecutor Office, she died due to the cardiovascular failure.
In Oct 2007, Kungurova was detained due to illegal drug possession. The Azerbaijani human right activists believe that Kungurova was arrested due to her opposition activities.
