Discussions on Political Prisoners in   Azerbaijan PACE Bureau Postponed

France, Strasburg, 25 January / Тrend corr A. Maharramli / The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) postponed the discussion on the appointment of a Special Reporter for Political Prisoners in Azerbaijan.

In today's meeting of the Bureau they did not discuss political prisoners in Azerbaijan. It was decided to wait for the results of the visit of the CE Monitoring Committee's co-rapporteurs to the country, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov said to Trend on 25 January.

The PACE co-rapporteurs for Azerbaijan Andreas Herkel and Yevgenia Zhivkova will be visiting Baku on 4-8 February. They will study the political prisoners problem in Azerbaijan and will assess the progress in settling the issue, the PACE Secretariat reported to Trend.

According to Seyidov, the meeting approved the visit to Azerbaijan of Russell Johnston, the head of the PACE Monitoring Committee's Subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict, to take place on 7-9 February. "The Bureau extended the authorities of the Subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict," Seyidov said.

Previously, the Monitoring Committee had postponed the discussions over the political prisoners in Azerbaijan to February.
