Azerbaijan takes progressive measures on the basis of a sustainable development with a view to address environmental challenges, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov said at the 11th International HCH and Pesticides Forum in Gabala today.
He said many of these problems remain from the past. Particularly, the problem of clearing contaminated land, which is now being successfully resolved.
The country has prevented the tendency of deforestation and Azerbaijan will solve the problem of pesticide in next 8-10 years, he stated.
Gabala hosts the 11th International HCH and Pesticides Forum on Sept.7-9. It is attended by about 120 experts from 40 countries discussing the projects to combat persistent organic pollutants, pesticides and hazardous chemical waste.
The forum is co-organized by Azerbaijan`s Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry and International HCH & Pesticides Association, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry, Center on Persistent Organic Pollutants, Regional Center in Eastern Europe, Czech Masaryk University and German Federal Agency for Environmental Protection.
The forum is aimed to enhance information exchange among countries, experts and organizations. It bring together representatives of governmental and nongovernmental organizations, donors, UN agencies and environmental scientists.
