Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov.3 / Trend, A. Akhundov /

The Azerbaijani government's forecasts to increase the country's GDP twice in the subsequent ten years are quite real, World Bank's Baku Office head Joseph Owen believes.

"Given current rate of Azerbaijan's economic growth, the task to increase the country's GDP, at least, twice within the next ten years is real and grounded," Owen said on Wednesday at an event on the 10th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Chamber of Accounts.

He said strengthening of activity of such agency as the Chamber of Accounts is very important for Azerbaijan.

Owen said today work is underway within the World Bank project on accounting in corporate and public sector (CAP/SAP), which envisages updating the strategic plan of the Azerbaijani Chamber of Accounts for 2011-2014.

Azerbaijani Chamber of Accounts has already received proposals under the project CAP/SAP, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber Adil Maharramov told Trend earlier.

"The German expert Axel Mennicken, involved as a consultant, has prepared and presented us proposals for improvement of the legislation with introducing international experience," said Maharramov.

He said at present these proposals are being assessed.

Total project cost is $24 million. The project is financed by a loan from the World Bank in amount of $11 million, grants of the Japanese Foundation PHRD ($3 million), Seco ($2 million) and shares of the Government of Azerbaijan ($8 million). CAP/SAP project was approved by the executive board of the World Bank on March 27, 2008.
