Payments in foreign currency for goods (work and services) are prohibited in Uzbekistan. Only payments through international payment cards in accordance with international practice is allowed.

This was announced by the State Committee for Tourism on Dec 13. The Committee warned heads of tourism entities that the ban follows from the presidential decree "On Priority Measures for the Liberalization of Monetary Policy."

In accordance with the decree, prices and tariffs for goods, works and services, as well as minimum requirements to the authorized capital of the companies, are also indicated only in the national currency.

The Committee reminded that tour operators in the country must indicate all prices for the products (services) they offer exclusively in national currency - sums, including services and products of foreign partners (this requirement does not apply to goods and services advertised to foreign citizens outside of Uzbekistan).

At the same time, for the convenience of customers, one can use the currency converter (information board, etc.) as an auxiliary reference information for those who wish to pay by means of international payment cards.

Failure to comply with the above mentioned requirements is a violation of the law and may serve as a basis for suspending a license to carry out tourism activities.
