In the first 8 months of 2018, Kazakhstan exported 3.87 million tons of wheat and meslin (mix of wheat and rye), which is 60.4 percent more than in the same period last year, Energyprom.kz reported.

In monetary terms, exports amounted to $600.2 million, which is a 57.1 percent growth year-on-year.

The list of CIS countries who purchased Kazakh wheat the most in the reporting period is headed by Uzbekistan ($174.3 million), Tajikistan ($93.8 million) and Azerbaijan ($30.6 million).

The top importer countries from the rest of the world are China ($67.9 million), Italy ($52.9 million) and Turkey ($51 million).

Meanwhile, export prices for Kazakh wheat for the CIS countries in January-August 2018 decreased by 1.5 percent, and for the rest of the world — by 2.8 percent. In general, at the end of the 8 months wheat export prices decreased by 1.9 percent.

It is worth noting that as of October 9 this year, 20.9 million tons of grain were produced from 97.3 percent of the sown area of wheat (14.65 million hectares).

This year, the average wheat yield is higher than last year — 14.3 against 12.4 centners per hectare. However, the quality of wheat is worse than last year because of the cold spring and excessively wet summer.
