A new air harbor may be built on the basis of former military airport in Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to Sputnik Uzbekistan.
Deputy Governor of the Jizzakh region Azim Akhmedkhodzhayev said that either a business aviation air harbor or a full-service passenger airport could be built. In his words, the prospects of the construction of the new airport will be clarified after a full-fledged strategy for the development of the tourism potential of the Jizzakh region is designed.
Ahmedkhodjaev added that foreign investors already expressed their interest in building the airport. However, the construction will begin only after the infrastructure in the vicinity is approved, he said.
Currently, there is no airport operating in Jizzakh. The nearest airport is located at a distance of over 90 kilometers in Samarkand.
