By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:

Uzbek Uzavtosanoat company and Volkswagen Group Russia concluded an agreement on joint car production, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The document is signed following the preliminary negotiations on the development of German Volkswagen products at the Uzavtosanoat site.

The parties agreed to study in more detail the technical characteristics of the Uzavtosanoat facilities alongside the availability and level of the existing logistics and other infrastructure.

The possible total investment in the project, if its expediency is recognized, is tentatively estimated at up to 40 million euros. The project can be implemented in 2019-2021. A more accurate assessment is expected after completion of the feasibility study.

Uzavtosanoat will develop a business plan for the project with the support of the Volkswagen Group Russia.

In November 2017, the Uzbek-German joint venture JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan was supposed to start the production of Volkswagen Amarok pickups, but the project was terminated.

Volkswagen Group Russia combines the work of seven brands of the Volkswagen concern on the Russian market: Volkswagen cars, Audi, Škoda, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ducati and Volkswagen Commercial vehicles.
