Uzbekistan exempts 2,000 types of goods from customs duties

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 24

By Fakhri Vakilov-Trend:

More than 2,000 types of goods have been exempted from customs payments in Uzbekistan under the privilege stipulated by the Decree of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev “On further measures to accelerate the development of the pharmaceutical industry of Uzbekistan in 2019-2021,” Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan’s legal information portal “Norma”.

Manufacturers of pharmaceutical products, specialized research institutes and universities (when importing for their own needs), as well as enterprises engaged in the wholesale and retail sale of pharmaceutical products for pharmaceutical manufacturing can benefit from the privilege.

The April decree said that a specific list of goods to be exempted from customs duties until January 1, 2022 (except for customs clearance fees) is to be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

The list signed by the Government included 1,382 types of raw materials used for the production of medicines (including pharmaceutical products), medical devices and packaging materials; “Clean rooms”, sandwich panels and cups for them; and 600 items of technological and laboratory equipment, components and spare parts for them.

The codes of the commodity nomenclature of foreign economic activity indicated in the document are finally determined during the customs clearance of goods.

In case of misuse of imported items from the approved list, funds released as a result of application of customs privileges are recovered in full to the State Budget, and penalties are applied to violators. Control is assigned to the State Tax Committee in conjunction with the State Customs Committee.
