In 2020, Georgia has received a good harvest of potato, especially in Kvemo Kartli region, Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture told Trend.

"The potato harvest is expected to reach 200,000-220,000 tons across the country, out of which 35,000 tons will be harvested in Kvemo Kartli region, which is the main potato producer in Georgia," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, farmers are able to harvest, deliver and sell their products without any restrictions.

"The distribution center was opened in Bolnisi Municipality to ensure the safe and uninterrupted export of potatoes amid the novel coronavirus pandemic," the ministry said.

As the ministry noted, foreign national truck drivers will be provided with all necessary documents to facilitate the sale of products under the Single Window principle at the distribution point.

Meanwhile, potato production in Georgia decreased by 12.2 percent in 2019 compared to 2018. Georgia produced 186,500 tons of potatoes in 2015; 249,000 tons in 2016;180,100 tons in 2017; 237,500 tons in 2018; and 208,600 tons in 2019.
