BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 19

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Slovakia just like many other countries is interested in participation in projects on Azerbaijan´s liberated territories, Head of mission of the Slovak Embassy in Azerbaijan Milan Lajciak told Trend.

Following over a month of military action to liberate its territories from Armenian occupation from late Sept. to early Nov. 2020, Azerbaijan has pushed Armenia to sign the surrender document. A joint statement on the matter was made by the Azerbaijani president, Armenia's PM, and the president of Russia.

A complete ceasefire and a cessation of all hostilities in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was introduced on Nov. 10, 2020. Lajciak especially noted the Slovakia’s interest in the process of demining and building smart cities and as well as in infrastructure projects.

“We consider the area of demining as the starting point. Security is the precursor for any further development of liberated territories. That involves above all cleansing these areas from mines and other explosive devices,” he said.

Lajciak noted that Slovakia has vast experience in defense industry and long tradition in production of demining equipment adding that ANAMA has positive experience with Slovakia’s demining systems.

Currently the Azerbaijan National Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) is carrying out operations to clear mines and unexploded ordnance from territories in Aghdam, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadly, Tartar districts and the city of Shusha.

To support the Azerbaijani troops, 136 members of special groups for reconnaissance and mine clearance of the Turkish Land Forces were sent to the region.

A group of pyrotechnics from the Ministry of Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters of the Russian Federation, together with employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, also continue the operation to demine liberated lands.
