Market should regulate tariffs for passenger transportation Transport Minister

Business Materials 2 March 2006 19:20 (UTC +04:00)

It is not planned to increase the direct price of tickets in the domestic airlines in 2006 in connection with the increase of prices of oil products (including avia kerosene), Trend reports citing Ziya Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Transport Minister as stating on Thursday.

The minister said that the companies which carry out internal flights work on the self-financing system and have a right for indemnifying the expenses for fuel. The market should regulate the prices of tickets. They can rise or drop, he underscored.

The similar situation is observed in the automobile transportation that works diesel fuel. The minister underlined that rise in fuel prices increased the direct price of transportation by 30%-35%. The regulation of prices of this type of transportation must be done through the market principle, as around 99% of the passenger transporters are private companies and physicals.
