Astana to Host Preparations for Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan Business-forum

A business-forum titled Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan: perspectives of cooperation will start in Astana on December 12 within the framework of a visit of the Azerbaijan Minister for Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, to Kazakhstan, TrendSpecial Correspondent in Kazakhstan reports citing KazInvest Company.

Over 40 companies involved in the spheres of construction industry, production and sale of foodstuff, engineering machines, alcohol-free products, will represent Azerbaijan in the gathering. At the same time, the representatives of state bodies, the Foundation for Stable Development Kazina', institutions of development and business circles will represent Kazakhstan.

The company announced that the key objective of the event is to mull the trade and economic cooperation, opportunities for establishment of joint ventures, development of joint entrepreneurship and commercial activities.

The State Statistics Agency of Kazakhstan informed that in January to September 2006 the goods turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan made up $147.7mln, including $91.7 in export and $56mln in import.

Kazakhstan exports to Azerbaijan oil and hydrocarbons, natural chemical compositions, grains, barley, tobacco products, rolled carbonaceous steel and electric devices.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan imports from Azerbaijan oil products made of bituminous materials, ethylene polymers, spare parts for cars and mechanisms, pumps and liquid elevators, prefabricated construction elements.

There are 36 small enterprises with the participation f the Azerbaijani entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan, including 13 joint ventures.

Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan signed over 80 interstate and intergovernmental agreements. The cooperation is successfully developing in different sectors of economy, including oil machinery, agriculture and tourism.
