By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan is interested in supplying gas to Montenegro, the company's president Rovnag Abdullayev told reporters Oct.29.

He added that SOCAR continues to work out the project for supplying gas to Albania.

"Recently, Montenegro expressed interest in joining this project," said Abdullayev.

"We plan to work out a joint feasibility study of one large project for supplying gas to Albania and Montenegro which will be more profitable," he added.

After commissioning the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), Albania will have more gas and will be more interested in distributing it to Europe, according to SOCAR president.

TAP project envisages transportation of gas from the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz gas and condensate field to EU countries.

The 870 kilometers long pipeline will be connected to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) on the Turkish-Greek border near the city of Kipoi, run trough Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Italy's south.

It is planned to start the pipeline's construction in 2016.

The initial capacity of TAP will be 10 billion cubic meters per year, expandable to 20 billion cubic meters. As part of Stage 2 of developing Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field, the first volumes of gas will be transported to Europe via TAP in early 2020.

The shareholders are: BP (20 percent), SOCAR (20 percent), Statoil (20 percent), Fluxys (19 percent), Enagas (16 percent) and Axpo (five percent).
