BP Azerbaijan intends to develop a plan in 1H2017 for drilling of wells at prospective sites in the shallow waters around Absheron Peninsula, BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gordon Birrell told reporters in Baku Dec. 15.
He added that BP Azerbaijan has conducted successful 3D seismic surveys.
Birrell said that data have been collected and are currently being analyzed.
He said that after the data analysis, sites will be selected for drilling operations.
A contract for exploration and development of promising sites in the shallow waters around the Absheron Peninsula was signed in December 2014 between the Azerbaijani State Oil Company (SOCAR) and BP, and ratified in April 2015.
The territory covered by the agreement extends along the Absheron Peninsula’s southern part and covers an area of about 1,900 square kilometers.
Fifty percent of the share in the agreement belongs to BP, and 50 percent to SOCAR.
BP is the project’s technical operator.
