As of Oct.1 mobile communication numbers in Azerbaijan totaled 8.6 million units, which is 16.6 percent more than the same period of last year, the State Statistics Committee Chairman Arif Valiyev said at a press conference today.

The volume of information and communication services rendered to organizations and the public amounted to 832 million manat for the first nine months, or 33.4 percent more than the same period of last year.

Some 74 percent of total volume fell on services rendered to population. At the same time, 67.8 percent of revenues fell on mobile communication services, which is by 34 percent up compared to the previous year and amounted to 564.3 million manat.

According to Veliyev, number of computers in the Azerbaijani secondary schools in 2010-2011 academic year increased by 1,700 compared to last school year to 40,100 units.

"If four years ago on average one computer fell to 100 pupils of secondary schools, now one computer accounts for every 33 students. In rural areas this figure over the past four years has decreased from 208 to 35 units, that is, one computer on average falls on every 35 pupils," Valiyev said.
