ICANN approves At-Large program in Azerbaijan

The research center for information received the formal approval of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to implement the program At-Large in Azerbaijan, Yashar Hajiyev, head of the Research Center for Information, told Trend.

He said that at present, the talks are being held with ICANN to determine the conditions of the project. It will allow Azerbaijani end-users to participate directly in ICANN's work, for example, to contribute to the formation of domain names and e-mails, to participate in online elections of Directors of Technical Council, coordinating the activity of the private sector of the Internet.

The main purpose of At-large program is to convey the necessary information to ICANN for further resolving the issues emerging in the Internet. Azerbaijani representation of At-Large will be able to hold local forums, where they will take the appropriate decisions to further deliver in the annual forums organized by ICANN.

At-large members will have the right to organize the meetings at the ICANN forums. While discussing the problems of the Internet, At-large organizations, existing in different countries, will be participants of ICANN management. It can be called a democratic, as all decisions are taken by vote, he said.

At Large members will receive regular news about ICANN activity and initiatives in the Internet.

At-Large program is also intended to correct the situation related to controlling the Internet space directly by one country. ICANN tried to make the election procedure more democratic.

The Internet users, registered in the program will choose representatives of the organization.
