The National Academy of Sciences' (ANAS) Institute of Information Technologies (IIT) has signed a contract with IBM on software solutions supplies to set up Cloud Computing, IIT Senior Engineer Rashid Alakbarov told Trend.

According to Alakbarov, the technique supply is expected in mid-November. Afterwards, a DATA-center will commence and serve ANAS employees.

"The DATA-center's initial performance will be 1.5 teraflops, with a RAM of 650 GB and an external array of about 40 terabytes," he said. "The huge external array will enable to archive database of ANAS institutes. The construction of the two-story building accommodating the DATA-Center is complete and we will launch equipping the center with cooling systems."

The institute also reviewed HP's proposal to implement the project.

Earlier, Alekberov said the institute chose IBM solution because this vendor could provide program component along with technical equipment.

Cloud computing will initially be accessible to employees of the academy's over 35 scientific-research institutes, and later to all scientists and universities in the country.

Providing end users with remote access to the dynamic cloud computing will be done directly via the AzScienceNet academic computer network, whose data transfer speed exceeds 132 Mbps.

Users at Cloud computing base will have an access to three handling systems - SaaS (software-as-a-service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-service) and IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service).
