Some 1,952 crimes were committed in the New Year holidays in Kazakhstan from Dec.31, 2011 to Jan. 3, 2012, half of which is disclosed during the day, Kazakh Interior Ministry reported.
According to the ministry, during this period 37 murders were recorded, 26 of which were disclosed. Six attacks, 231 robberies, 939 theft crimes were committed. Some 206 previously committed crimes were disclosed, including 150 crimes committed in previous years. As a result of operational activities seven drug-related crimes were disclosed, two facts of which are associated with drug sale. Over two kilograms of marijuana, 359 grams of heroin were seized from trafficking.
In addition, according to the Kazakh Interior Ministry, 85 road accidents were recorded in the New Year holidays on the country's highways, as a result of which 17 people were killed and 72 injured.
