'Quds Day heralds fall of Israel'

A senior Iranian commander says the Quds Day rallies are indicative of the global opposition to Israeli occupation and a presage of Tel Aviv's downfall, Press TV reported.

The Quds Day "appears to pave the way for the collapse of Israel and its allies, namely the US and Britain," IRNA quoted Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri, the deputy head of Iran's Armed Forces Joint Chiefs of Staff, as saying on Thursday.

In August 1979, late founder of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the Quds Day, calling for international rallies against Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Jazayeri also said that the upcoming direct talks between Tel Aviv and the Palestinian Authority (PA) were bound to fail.
