Iran reiterates ownership of PG islands

A senior Iranian lawmaker has reiterated that the three Persian Gulf islands of the Lesser Tunb, the Greater Tunb and Abu Musa are integral parts of the Iranian territory, Press TV reported.

"Emirate's claim on the three Persian Gulf islands is unfounded," Fars news agency quoted Deputy Head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's Parliament (Majlis) Hossein Sobhani-Nia as saying late Sunday.

He added that Iran has announced time and again that it does not recognize the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) claim on the ownership of the three islands.

"The three islands are inseparable parts of Iranian soil," the Iranian parliamentarian underlined.

However, he added, the Islamic Republic has many times announced that it is ready to hold talks with the UAE without any mediators to remove the existing misunderstandings over the issue.

There are a lot of documents which prove Iran's ownership of the three islands, the MP went on to say.

"Based on the same valid and legal documents, Iran is the real owner of the islands and is ready to present the documents to the Emirati side in direct talks to remove the [existing] differences as soon as possible" Sobhani-Nia concluded.
