Canon clones itself, announces two "new" cameras

(mobilemag) - guess we shouldn't have too high expectations when it comes to entry-level point-and-shoot digital cameras, but the two latest PowerShot offerings from our friends at Canon -- A550 and A460 -- look just a little too familiar. Let's face it, they look exactly the same as the cameras which preceded them, so all Canon really did was slap on a new model number and increase the megapixel count just a touch. But hey, that's what you get for a couple of cameras that cost as little as they do.

In fact, the 5.0 megapixel A460 is set to retail for $150, whereas the 7.1 megapixel A550 is $50 more. That's pretty cheap, placing these two newest entries right in line with the rest of the budget-minded picture-takers out there. Both cameras, powered by standard AA batteries, are expected to ship in February, reports Trend.

Other than the number of megapixels, the two cameras are equivalently equipped with 4x optical zoom, 2-inch LCD, and SD/MMC/SDHC card slot. The A550 adds 30fps VGA video to the mix as well.
