In the next six months, Iran can resume the marine passenger voyages between its port of Anzali and Baku, Azerbaijan, the director of the Anzali free economic zone, Reza Masroor told Trend on Feb. 24.

Masroor, who is on a visit to Baku, said the resuming of marine passenger voyages between the ports of Baku and Anzali is being discussed with the Azerbaijani side.

He said the Azerbaijani side has a positive attitude towards the restoration of these voyages.

Masroor also underscored that the resuming of passenger voyages between the ports of Baku and Anzali will promote development of tourism between Azerbaijan and Iran.

The marine passenger voyages between the ports of Baku and Anzali were discontinued in 1998, Masroor added.

At present only 10 percent of the cargo turnover of the Anzali port accounts for Azerbaijan, he further said.

Masroor also noted that about 10 Azerbaijani companies are operating in the Anzali free economic zone.

The Anzali free economic zone is located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea.
