Georgia shares top importers of its hazelnuts

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 7

Georgia has exported up to 15,200 tons of hazelnuts worth $69.8 million from August 1 through December 5, 2021, Trend reports, referring to the publication of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.

The volume of Georgia’s hazelnuts export in the reporting period of 2021 increased by 31 percent (3,600 tons), while the value of exports increased by 7.3 percent ($7.3 million), compared to the same period of 2020.

According to the ministry, Georgian hazelnuts are mainly exported to European countries, as well as to neighboring countries.

TOP 10 importers of Georgian hazelnuts:

Italy – 6,135 tons;

Germany – 2,904 tons;

Armenia – 964 tons;

China – 780 tons;

Spain – 446 tons;

Czech Republic – 445 tons;

Poland – 337 tons;

Russia – 337 tons;

Lithuania – 284 tons;

Ukraine – 256 tons.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s hazelnuts export to Azerbaijan from August 1 through December 5, 2021, amounted to 82 tons.

According to the ministry, the hazelnut harvest in 2021 is of high quality due to active and purposeful work on pest extermination. It is planned to collect about 65,000-70,000 tons the export potential of which is $150 million.
