The German embassy in Cairo on Monday sought to evacuate diplomatic staff and other Germans living in the Egyptian capital, German Press Agency dpa learned.
Around 140 Germans headed for the airport north-east of Cairo, which has been filled in recent days with foreigners attempting to leave the country on an insufficient number of outbound flights, DPA reported.
A jumbo jet departed early Monday from Frankfurt airport to repatriate the German citizens. The flight, requested by the Foreign Ministry, is to depart from Cairo in the afternoon for the 4-hour flight home.
