Loud explosions heard in Tripoli

Loud blasts were heard Tuesday in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, without immediate reports of casualties, Xinhua reported.

Local witnesses said the blasts were heard near the residence of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Explosions were also heard in the Bab Al-Azizya district, followed soon by ambulance sirens, they said.

It was not immediately clear whether the explosions were fresh air strikes by the West-led coalition forces.

The city has suffered frequent bombardment over the recent days as the multinational coalition carried out military intervention in the Northern African country.

One administrative building of the residence compound of Gaddafi was destroyed by a missile fired by a Western warplane on March 20. U.S. officials later stated that Gaddafi was not on the target list of the Western military strikes.
