An earthquake measuring 5.5 on Richter scale took place in the Iranian cities of Abadan and Mormori today, the IRNA news agency reported. According to the Seismological Center at the Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the earthquake took place at 14:39 local time.
Five homes were destroyed in Abadan and windows were shattered in many homes and shops in Mormori in the result of the earthquake, Mehr news agency reported.
Power lines and communications were also destroyed in Mormori. There is no information about injured.
All rescue forces of Mormori and Abadan, as well as in towns in the vicinity were alerted.
