Iran's presidential candidate Gholam Ali Haddad Adel said that the so-called advocates of human rights in the West have failed in their deeds, arguing that Muslim nations know from experience that Western slogans are empty.

Speaking to a crowd of supporters in the city of Qom, the principlist candidate said there's a connection between Iran's Islamic Revolution and the recent regional developments, the Fars News agency reported.

He said Arab revolutions and uprisings have been inspired by the Islamic movement initiated by the late Imam Khomeini.

According to the lawmaker, unilateral sanctions by the West are designed to create havoc in Iran and affect the outcome of the presidential election.

Haddad Adel said tthe West is seeking to ensure that the winner will be conciliatory and to their liking.

Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013. Voters will select the successor to the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for a third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. The Guardian Council has vetted the candidates for qualifications.
